One package manager for the lab

As the lab grew, manual installation became its own problem. Clone, build, symlink, repeat. Miss a dependency, start over. Update one app, forget which commit the others are on.

fly is the answer to that friction.

What fly does

fly is a unified package manager for Firefly Labs projects:

Presets — apps are pre-configured, not guessed
Detection — Rust, Node, Tauri, Electron — build commands match the project type
Filesystem — installs under /firefly/apps/, config under /firefly/config/
Symlinks — binaries land in your PATH without manual ln -s

That is the entire onboarding. No matrix of install docs per repo.

Why not cargo install everything?

Some projects are Rust. Some are Svelte. Some are Tauri workspaces. A single cargo install story does not cover the lab.

fly is the layer above the build tools — it knows which command to run, where to put the output, and how to track what is installed.

Ecosystem, not lock-in

fly is opinionated about layout, not about usage. You can still clone any repo and build it yourself. The manager is convenience, not a gate.

But if you are running multiple Firefly tools day to day, convenience compounds.
